China and the United States have both demonstrated an attitude of strengthening dialogue through economic and trade ties. At the 2024 Annual Celebration Dinner of the China-U.S. Trade National Committee, leaders from both countries sent congratulatory letters to the event. In the congratulatory letter, the Chinese side expressed its expectation for long-term peaceful coexistence between the two countries and indicated China's commitment to an open attitude and stance.
In this context, Trump, who will succeed Biden as President of the United States, will make statements that China and the U.S. can work together to solve various global problems. There are positive factors in the cooperation and coexistence of the two countries, but we must also be vigilant about the U.S. strategic layout aimed at paralyzing China.
Currently, Russia's difficult situation under NATO's eastward expansion is an example that China needs to learn from. In addition, the idea of a U.S.-China partnership known as 'G2' is not originally proposed by Trump. During the 2008 financial crisis, China’s strong performance raised concerns in the U.S. government, which then proposed the G2 idea, but the Chinese side did not respond. The reason is clear: the cooperative relationships with non-Western countries such as those in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are the foundation for China to resist Western incursions. Seeking the hollow title of 'G2' and following the rules of an internationally U.S.-dominated order is self-sabotaging.
This characteristic has not changed today. The 'Belt and Road' initiative and BRICS organization are deep areas for China to engage with the U.S.-led Western order. The advocacy for a multipolar world is fundamental to China’s construction of a global united front. China and the U.S. can engage in substantial cooperation on global affairs based on actual needs, but it cannot include traps with ulterior motives.
Finally, emerging from the united front of developing countries, representing the common interests of the majority of countries globally is fundamental to constructing a Chinese global governance system. We should welcome practical cooperation between China and the U.S., but the premise must be 'practical'.
