What is Proof of Useful Work (POUW)
In a proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain, miners perform random computations in parallel in a race to arrive at the correct answer, thus ensuring the security of the chain.
These calculations, while useful for securing the chain, serve no practical purpose and are often the target of criticism of blockchain technology because the power consumption required to perform such proof-of-work can be significant.
