"Doomsday Doctor" Roubini: Predicts US Inflation Could Reach 5% During Trump's New Term

Economist Nouriel Roubini, known as the "Doomsday Doctor," believes that after Trump begins his second presidential term on January 20, inflation in the United States may rise to 5%.

Roubini, who gained fame in 2006 for predicting a major correction in the US housing market, stated in an interview that some of Trump's economic policies will help drive economic growth, but many policies could lead to rising inflation and slow economic growth. As an honorary professor at New York University, Roubini cited examples such as making some temporary tax cuts permanent, weakening the dollar, interfering with the independence of the Federal Reserve, and reversing climate change policies, all of which could contribute to rising prices.

Roubini believes inflation could rise to 3%, 4%, or even 5%, with bond yields also increasing from the current 4% to 6%, 7%, or even 8%. Roubini is also concerned that Trump's large-scale deportation of illegal immigrants will slow down the US economy and could even lead to stagflation. Additionally, he believes Trump's earlier proposal to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China is just the beginning, and other countries will soon face similar pressures.
