How blockchain and AI reshape the gaming player experience

How do blockchain games reshape player experience and bring positive impacts to community economics? Besides blockchain, how will the rising AI technology affect game development, player interaction, and market development?

The WEB3+ 'Block Point Gathering' event in November 2024 will expand alongside the startup event Meet Taipei. One of the forums invited Gavin Chen, strategy director of the game ecosystem Immutable, and Cai Yiting (Roney), co-founder and COO of Crypto City, to discuss the dynamics of game development.

The allure and challenges of blockchain games

From small projects to mainstream game IPs like (MapleStory), they have already laid out in the Web3 field, indicating that there must be considerable attraction for players that prompts game companies to take action.

Gavin uses Immutable as an example, stating that over 300 exclusive games have been launched on the platform so far. Immutable not only attracts a large number of blockchain game enthusiasts but also hopes to attract traditional game players to experience the advantages brought by blockchain technology.

Gavin pointed out that the introduction of blockchain technology not only changes the economic model of games but also changes players' gaming behavior. Players will no longer be just consumers but producers who can participate in the game economic system.

Cai Yiting believes that blockchain games are still in a relatively early stage in the market, but the future potential has already been seen. He mentioned that many blockchain games attract not only users interested in blockchain technology but also players who want to invest or earn cryptocurrency, which is certainly one of the key reasons why blockchain games can attract players.

However, Cai Yiting also mentioned that if the game itself lacks entertainment value and relies solely on money-making mechanisms, it may also provoke negative backlash in the market, even harming the game itself. If Web3 games wish to become mainstream, they still need to pay more attention to game quality and experience.

The entertainment value of the game itself is the key to attracting players, while the ability to earn money and investment opportunities is an added value of the game, not the sole driving force,” said Cai Yiting.

How AI is changing the gaming industry?

In addition to blockchain technology, AI has also become a powerful force changing the gaming industry.

According to Gavin's observation, the application of AI in games mainly focuses on enhancing player experience and game interaction. He believes that AI can create a more 'dynamic' and 'intelligent' gaming environment that can change based on the player's actions, choices, and strategies.

Alternatively, AI can be used to design more flexible enemy behaviors, increasing game challenge while also ensuring that each player's experience is unique, enhancing the chances of players replaying the game multiple times.

Cai Yiting pointed out that the introduction of AI will significantly lower the threshold for game development, including funding, labor costs, and the complexity of development will decrease. As AI technology advances, many developers or individuals without a development background can use AI tools to create game content, making game development no longer the exclusive domain of large teams. Anyone who masters the basic tools can participate in game creation.

Cai Yiting believes that future games may develop in two directions: one is extremely creative, meaning these games may not be fancy in terms of visuals or sound effects, but the gameplay will be very interesting and innovative. Conversely, the other is ultra-high-level visual effects. As more developers can participate in creation, competitive pressure will increase, pushing games to achieve near-perfect standards in graphics and sound effects.

Regardless of how the game evolves, Gavin and Cai Yiting unanimously agree that AI technology will definitely benefit players, bringing more choices and richer experiences.
