Latest Situation of Kwon Do-hyung's Release from Prison
Background Information: Kwon Do-hyung is the founder of Terraform Labs and has gained significant attention due to the LUNA/UST collapse. He used marketing tactics to deceive investors, resulting in substantial losses for many. After the incident broke out, Kwon fled to Singapore and later forged a passport to enter Montenegro, where he was arrested by Montenegrin police in March 2023.
Judgment Situation: The Montenegrin court sentenced Kwon Do-hyung to four months in prison for forging official documents. At the same time, both the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and South Korean prosecutors have filed charges against Kwon, involving multiple counts including securities fraud and electronic fraud.
Release and Extradition: Kwon Do-hyung is theoretically expected to be released after serving four months in prison. However, due to the ongoing dispute between South Korean and U.S. authorities over his extradition rights, his specific whereabouts after release remain uncertain. South Korean prosecutors have indicated they are prepared to negotiate extradition matters with the Montenegrin authorities, while U.S. judicial authorities have also filed criminal charges against Kwon.
