The hated SEC chairman Gary Gensler, who is disliked by many crypto users, will leave office on January 20, 2025. Meanwhile, Donald Trump's team has expanded the list of candidates for the position of SEC chairman. Another contender is Teresa Goodin Guillen, a partner at the law firm BakerHostetler.

Among others being considered are:

Robert Stebbins, partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP;

Dan Gallagher, chief legal officer of Robinhood;

former acting head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks;

former SEC commissioners Brad Bondi and Paul Atkins.
