Hachiko (November 10, 1923 - March 8, 1935) is a legendary loyal dog in Japanese history. He was an Akita dog from Odate City, Akita Prefecture. He was born in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, Japan in 1923 and was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Eizaburo Ueno, in 1924. Every morning, Hachiko would see his owner off to work at the doorstep, and pick him up at nearby Shibuya Station in the evening. One night, Eizaburo Ueno died of a heart attack at work, and did not return to Shibuya Station as usual. However, Hachiko still waited faithfully in front of Shibuya Station for 9 years until he died on March 8, 1935.
There is a bronze statue in front of Shibuya Station. This statue was built to commemorate the loyal dog Hachiko. It is the Hachiko Statue and has become a famous tourist attraction.
