Lead Ethereum researcher Justin Drake has announced that he is stepping down from several positions, including advisor to the EigenLayer and the Ultra Sound team. He has taken these steps to align with his commitment to neutrality and focus on research into the base layer of the blockchain (L1). The specialist said that he decided to leave his role at the Eigen Foundation back in September. The developer emphasized that he is completely withdrawing from advisory, investment, and participation in security councils going forward. Drake noted that legitimacy plays a key role in the ability to make meaningful changes to the 1st layer of the blockchain, and public perception is important for maintaining trust in Ethereum. In his opinion, the network’s exceptional position is largely due to the high standards that researchers, developers, and coordinators adhere to.

Drake also announced that he is stepping down from the Ultra Sound team, which monitors Ethereum economic parameters and metrics. The project is fully managed by three permanent members - Alex, Niklas, and Christian, who have taken on the responsibility for operational management and development decisions.

The researcher noted that the roadmap for the Ethereum consensus layer remains ambitious, and there are at least 5 years of work ahead to achieve the planned goals. According to Drake, this activity is extremely important for the future of the network, and he intends to make every effort to successfully develop this part of the ecosystem.
