A recent report from A16zcrypto titled 'Estimating the Number of Active Cryptocurrency Users' found that only up to 60 million current holders are actively using their cryptocurrency each month.
These numbers represent only 10% of the estimated 617 million global holders, a figure released by Crypto.com in June.
The report assesses that 'this difference shows there is a very large opportunity to convert current cryptocurrency holders — who are primarily passive holders — into active users.'
A16zcrypto believes that as the experience of cryptocurrency becomes more engaging, more users will be attracted to on-chain experiences, increasing this number in the future.
