The Dark Side of Crypto. Web3 vigilante ZachXBT has made it his specialty to call out scammers and other fraudsters that abound in our ecosystem, but he’s also not afraid to take on the big fish like the hackers working for Pyongyang: the Lazarus Group. ZachXBT recently shared some details that led him back to tracking down North Korean hackers and it all started with a call for help from someone in his community.
ZachXBT Subscriber Denounces Chinese Trader's Practices...
One of his hundreds of thousands of followers contacted ZachXBT to explain that he had just been banned by a platform (the name of which remains secret) after making a person-to-person transfer with a certain Yicong Wang, apparently a Chinese national. After the transaction, he received a message stating that he had broken the law by helping the Lazarus Group launder money.
The victim, who claims to be innocent, immediately sends as much information as possible to ZachXBT to show his good faith and try to get out of this rather uncomfortable situation. But the story does not end there, because a few months later, this same person receives a call for help from one of his friends who Yicong Wang contacted directly for the same type of problem, but this time for an amount of about $ 1.5 million.💰💰
The two friends refuse the operation and then turn again to their hero 3.0 by giving him other information including the nicknames used by the famous Yicong Wang, but above all the addresses on the TRON network from the exchanges on WeChat.
who was certain to have laundered millions of dollars on behalf of North Korean hackers.
Armed with this data, ZachXBT will track the money trail and monitor the operations being executed on these addresses and it won’t take long to discover that at least one of them is linked to several recent hacks like the one Alex Lab did in May 2024 for $4.5 million.💰💰
He would eventually link up with over 25 Lazarus-related groups that would have made over $17 million across these different addresses! Finally, he would trace Yicong Wang to several platforms he was banned from such as Paxfull or Noones where he attempted to register under several different aliases. ZachXBT would end his thread with a wishful thinking: “Let’s hope that at some point in the future, Yicong Wang will be held accountable for his actions.” 🔥🔥
Unfortunately, it is not certain that international justice will succeed in getting its hands on this character, but all the police and cybercrime forces in the world are still making efforts to try to block the funds associated with Lazarus as soon as possible. Yes, cryptocurrencies are used by North Korean criminals, but at least they provide investigators with an opportunity to freeze funds, which good old money does not.💰🔥$TRX $ZK $SOL
