The US government has launched an investigation into cryptocurrency company Tether for possible violations of sanctions and anti-money laundering rules, the WSJ reports.
The criminal investigation, led by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, seeks to determine whether the cryptocurrency has been used by third parties to finance illegal activities such as drug trafficking, terrorism, hacking, or to launder funds from these crimes.
