At the latest regular meeting, Ethereum core developers confirmed that the Dencun upgrade will not be deployed on time initially planned for the end of this year but will have to be postponed to next year.
The slow launch schedule on testnet networks caused Ethereum to postpone the upgrade to next year. Previously, developers felt uncertain about bringing the entire client to the testnet while there were still important adjustments in the system.
Going live with Dencun depends on many factors such as the readiness of the source code on Ethereum's consensus & execution layers, as well as the readiness of many client groups and the need for a lot of time for testing. on testnet.
Dencun is Ethereum's next major upgrade after Shanghai/Shapella which was rolled out in April 2023. The name Dencun is a combination of Deneb and Cancun. The updated upgrade will bring many important changes to the Ethereum network.
