Grass Network Launch: Airdrop One

Grass Foundation

The Internet belongs to everyone. Grass is a decentralized movement that unites millions globally to reclaim collective control over the Web. The first airdrop will be one of the most widely distributed airdrops in history, representing a significant step toward building the first user-owned Internet map.

Functionality of the token

Grass Token (GRASS) is the foundational element of the decentralized network, enabling users to reclaim control over their Internet bandwidth and access and facilitate the functions of the Grass Network.

GRASS will enable holders to participate in the Grass Network as follows:

Network Governance: Participation in the development of the Grass Network, including proposing and voting on network improvements, adjustments for cooperative organizations, and determining incentives for all stakeholders.

Staking and Rewards: Stake GRASS to routers to facilitate network traffic flowing through the network and earn rewards for contributing to network security.

Access Bandwidth: After decentralization, GRASS will be used to pay for transactions on the network, thus enabling decentralized scraping of public Web data.

Why Distributed Systems are Needed

There are three equally important reasons why Grass needs to operate on the blockchain.

Transaction Efficiency: Global on-chain settlement is easier and better in over 190 countries compared to Chain.

Transparency: Proof of each transaction published on-chain provides verifiable evidence of fair distribution of rewards. It also offers transparency for the validation of data sources.

User Ownership: Users can and should own their contributions; otherwise, they will continue to be manipulated by large tech companies that do not consider their best interests.

Airdrop One Distribution

Airdrop One will distribute 100,000,000 GRASS (10% of total supply) to early node operators and community members as follows:

9% allocated to users who earned Grass points during Phase 1 (Network Snapshot)

0.5% to GigaBuds NFT holders, and

0.5% to users who installed Desktop Node or Saga applications.

The network snapshot includes all users who earned more than 500 Grass points within the given epoch.

You can check your eligibility and view your final allocation here: grassfoundation.io/eligibility.

The allocation for each epoch is divided into 9 tiers. Tiers are determined based on Grass points earned from network uptime and referrals; the higher the Grass points, the higher the participant's tier.

Every eligible user will receive Grass points as a reward; however, methods and timing may vary depending on your jurisdiction.

As of the snapshot block, a total of 4,996,015 tokens were evenly distributed among all GigaBuds NFTs, excluding any NFTs listed at the time of the snapshot. Eligible wallets will receive 515 GRASS for each GigaBud NFT.

To reward the adoption of new Grass distribution channels, 5,000,000 GRASS will be evenly distributed among all accounts that installed Desktop Nodes or Saga applications and earned 500 or more Grass points within the given period before October 11, 2024, 05:00 UTC.

Live Context Retrieval (LCR)

Incentivized by the opportunity to create better search, LCR will help LLM retrieve accurate and up-to-date knowledge from the Web, thus providing a better search experience for Internet users.

The issue with the current Web index acting as the backbone of AI search is that they are severely influenced by search engine optimization. This dependency on ad-driven monetization benefits intermediaries at the cost of search result quality.

Live Context Retrieval will be the only neutral way to connect any model to the Internet, with all value directly accruing to the Grass Network and, in turn, to the users.

Router Infrastructure and Staking

Routers serve as geographical hubs connecting all nodes within a specific area to validators on the network. Routers reduce latency for Web requests and increase infrastructure redundancy to ensure the network operates smoothly at all times. At least 1,250,000 GRASS must be staked to enable a router to start operating during the network launch.

Network Integrity

To ensure fairness and prevent network abuse, Grass has implemented a robust system to identify network abusers. Users are screened based on various technologies, including Graph ML for identifying suspicious referral trees, device fingerprints, similar IP subnets, etc.

These measures ensure that only legitimate participants are included in the airdrop, thereby maintaining the integrity of the GRASS airdrop.

The existence of Grass is to return control of the Internet to where it rightfully belongs: to the users.
