The identity of Bitcoin's elusive creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has intrigued the world since the figure vanished from public view in 2011. Now, a new HBO documentary titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery is set to premiere this Tuesday at 9 PM ET, claiming to shed light on the enigma surrounding Nakamoto.

While the producers promise to present a “compelling case” for Nakamoto's identity, they caution that they won’t offer definitive proof. This ambiguity has only heightened the excitement, especially as interest in Nakamoto has surged alongside the skyrocketing value of the approximately 1.1 million bitcoins believed to be under their control—worth around $66 billion today.

Speculation is rampant on betting platforms, with the Polymarket showing that many believe Len Sassaman, a cypherpunk who tragically took his own life in 2011, is the most likely candidate to be revealed as Satoshi, attracting 38% of bets. However, Sassaman himself was known to be skeptical of Bitcoin's potential, famously posting, "Personally, I think bitcoin is overhyped," and referring to it as “bunk” based on discussions with digital cash experts.

Other prominent figures in the running include Hal Finney, who received the very first bitcoin transaction before his passing in 2014, as well as Nick Szabo, the mind behind the concept of bit gold, and Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream.

With the documentary set to air soon, viewers are left to wonder: will it finally solve one of the biggest mysteries in modern history, or will it leave us with more questions than answers? As excitement builds, all eyes will be on the potential revelations about the man, woman, or group behind the Bitcoin phenomenon.
