According to ChainCatcher, the crypto advocacy organization "Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance" (COPA) and the patent-focused organization "Unified Patents" have launched a campaign against "patent giants" in blockchain and crypto technology.
In an Oct. 1 blog post, COPA said the partners launched the “BlockchainZone” campaign to combat patents controlled by non-practising entities (NPEs) covering a range of technologies including non-fungible tokens (NFTs), wallets and smart contracts.
COPA said the collaboration aims to protect blockchain companies and developers from “unwarranted and costly” legal claims by patent hoarders (NPEs), who take advantage of the high costs of court litigation to negotiate settlements.
