Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s fortune has surpassed $200 billion for the first time, making him the world’s fourth-richest person. The boost comes as Meta’s shares have surged 60% since the start of the year, sending his fortune six-fold in the past two years.

The world’s richest people are led by Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault. Tech companies have dominated US stock markets since the start of 2024, with shares of Nvidia, whose chips are the gold standard in artificial intelligence applications, up 140% this year alone, helping the S&P 500 rise 17%.

Despite Nvidia’s continued dominance, tech companies overall account for more than 31% of the S&P 500’s weighting, helping to deliver huge gains for many billionaires since the start of the year. Mark Zuckerberg has seen the biggest gain, with his fortune rising more than $72 billion to surpass $200 billion, the highest level since he joined the list of the world’s 500 richest people, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Six men, all from the tech sector, added nearly $300 billion to their net worth in less than 10 months. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, was among them, gaining $58 billion to bring his net worth to $102 billion.
