Brazilian court issues a heavy fine to social media platform X!
Pay $5.2 million to resume service!
The Brazilian Supreme Court recently issued a strict order requiring social media platform X to pay a fine of up to $5.2 million, otherwise it will not be able to resume its operating services in Brazil.
It is reported that the social media controlled by billionaire Elon Musk has previously appointed a local legal representative and deleted inappropriate information as required by the court.
However, Judge Alexandre de Moraes further pointed out in his ruling on Friday that the X platform must pay the full amount of the 18.3 million riyals fine he previously ruled, as well as the additional 10 million riyals fine for allowing some Brazilian users to use it during the ban.
The two fines totaled about $5.2 million, which became a necessary prerequisite for the X platform to return to the Brazilian market.
It seems that in the digital age, social media, as an important channel for information dissemination, bears an unshirkable social responsibility. During its operation in Brazil, X platform failed to fully fulfill this responsibility, resulting in the spread of improper information and damage to the public interest. Therefore, the court's heavy fine is necessary to maintain social order and public interest.
