On September 27, a wallet ending in "e57" was hit by a sophisticated phishing attack that lost 12,083 Spark Wrapped Ethereum tokens (spWETH). The value of these tokens was estimated at $32 million.
According to security firm CertiK, 10,000 spWETH (approximately $26 million) was sent to a wallet starting with "0x471c." Some of these funds were then transferred to four additional wallets.
Arkham Intelligence data suggests that the attacked wallet may have belonged to F2Pool founder Shixing Mao, but this information has not yet been confirmed.
Crypto phishing attacks increased by 215% in August 2024. According to a report by Scam Sniffer, the total losses from these attacks exceeded $66 million. Blockaidâs September 2024 report noted that the Angel Drainer phishing software had been upgraded to AngelX, which distributed over 300 phishing DApps.
Scam Sniffer reported that DuckDuckGo was displaying fake Etherscan sites and encouraging them to connect MetaMask wallets.
