YGG Japan announced the launch of YAIBA Chain, a Layer3 public chain from Sony, which aims to introduce Japanese anime and game IPs into the Web3 world.
Why develop a dedicated Layer3 application chain?
YGG Japan Director Kazune Harashima said that they have recently noticed a strong interest in Japanese IPs at blockchain events in Singapore and South Korea. In order to overcome obstacles such as insufficient English proficiency and cultural differences in Japan, YGG Japan hopes to promote the Web3ization of Japanese IPs through Layer3 application chains.
More than one chain! YGG Japan continues to launch application chains
Not long ago, YGG Japan launched the "KATANA" blockchain designed for blockchain game development at the IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO Blockchain Summit. KATANA is a Layer3 public chain based on Starknet. Mr. Harashima pointed out that KATANA was developed using StarkWare and uses zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology to achieve full chaining of games. This means that the game's open world, economy, and governance systems will all run online, allowing players to directly participate in the evolution of the game world.
At present, the Soneium blockchain is still in the testnet stage. After the mainnet is launched, the Layer2 blockchain Astar zkEVM will gradually transition to Soneium, making the total locked value of Astar zkEVM (US$4.51 million) an important source of Soneium's future liquidity.
In contrast, Starknet's total locked value is US$279 million. Due to the difference in Layer2 networks, the amount of funds attracted by YAIBA and KATANA also varies. YAIBA may be lacking in initial users and liquidity, but with the integration of the OP Stack superchain ecosystem in the future, YAIBA is expected to access mainstream Layer2 public chains such as OP Mainnet or Base, further promoting the ecological development of its animation and game IP.
The Tokyo Game Show officially opened on September 26. YGG Japan announced that it is developing the Layer3 blockchain YAIBA based on Sony's public chain project Soneium, aiming to introduce large IPs such as Japanese comics, animation and games into Web3. YGG also provides customized SDKs to help developers seamlessly connect these IPs to avoid legal and cross-border obstacles in the development process.
