Wu said that according to Yonhap News Agency, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea fined Worldcoin 1.1 billion won because the company collected iris information of about 30,000 users in South Korea without legal consent and illegally transferred the data overseas. PIPC found that Worldcoin and its commissioned third-party TFH collected iris information without legal consent and did not inform users of relevant matters when transferring the information to overseas countries such as Germany. In addition, TFH did not effectively verify the age of users when registering, and failed to prevent children under the age of 14 from registering.
