According to DHA, a person named Ö.Ç. managed to steal 54 Ethereum (ETH) worth $125 thousand from his cryptocurrency account by setting a trap for his lover A.T.
The incident began when Ö.Ç. enlisted the help of his friend who was hidden in the room to obtain A.T.’s cell phone. As part of this plan, when A.T. came home, M.P., who was hiding, took the opportunity to seize A.T.’s phone. With the seized phone, the assets in A.T.’s crypto account were transferred to another account and disappeared.
A striking detail in the development of the incident was that another friend of Ö.Ç., U.R.A., pressed the doorbell at the entrance of the apartment building to make A.T. leave the house. When A.T. checked his account after leaving the house, he noticed that all his assets had been reset to zero and reported the situation to the police.
The police reviewed the camera footage of the incident and determined that the suspects had rung the doorbell of the apartment. The team identified the suspects based on fingerprints and detained Ö.Ç. and M.P. The investigation revealed that the stolen amount of 550 thousand TL had been spent and the remaining 3 million 700 thousand TL had been blocked.
This incident reveals a remarkable story of fraud in the cryptocurrency world and underlines the need for users to increase their security.
