OpenAI's official Twitter account was hacked to promote a fake cryptocurrency.
The account offered subscribers a non-existent token called $OPENAI, which claimed to "bridge the gap" between #blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. "All OpenAI users can claim a piece of the original $OPENAI offering, the tweet read.
The now-deleted message said that by receiving the tokens, buyers would get "access to all future #beta versions of the software.

In June 2023, OpenAI CTO Mira Murati's account was hacked, and in June 2024, OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki was similarly affected.
In September 2024, OpenAI researcher Jason Wei's X was also hacked.
