• OpenAI's official Twitter account was hacked to promote a fake cryptocurrency.

The account offered subscribers a non-existent token called $OPENAI, which claimed to "bridge the gap" between #blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. "All OpenAI users can claim a piece of the original $OPENAI offering, the tweet read.

The now-deleted message said that by receiving the tokens, buyers would get "access to all future #beta versions of the software.

In September 2024, OpenAI researcher Jason Wei's X was also hacked. In both cases, hackers posted similar messages promoting #cryptocurrency tokens $BTC OpenAI unveiled a new family of models that became available Thursday as part of its paid ChatGPT Plus subscription. The official OpenAI blog states that o1 thinks before it answers.
