According to Cointelegraph, eight doctors specializing in the field of neurodivergence said in a recent friend-of-the-court brief supporting Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) that SBF was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and that the court and jury may have misunderstood SBF's behavior during the criminal trial.

Several of the doctors said there were several rulings that worked against SBF, particularly one from the Manhattan District Court that allowed government prosecutors to cross-examine SBF in the absence of a jury, and the judge repeatedly criticized SBF for his lengthy responses and his attempts to clarify or rephrase questions. The doctors said those traits are typical of people with autism spectrum disorder, who tend to interpret language literally. In addition, the doctors mentioned that the judge's criticisms led SBF to change his answers before the jury, which could be an "overcorrection."
