According to Bitcoin.com, a woman from Tennessee, Melody Sasser, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for using Bitcoin to plan an attempted murder for hire. She paid nearly $10,000 in Bitcoin through the dark web, trying to hire a killer to murder an Alabama resident and disguised it as an accident to avoid being discovered. Investigators found relevant evidence in her home, including communication records and Bitcoin addresses with dark web killer websites. She was sentenced to 100 months in prison and was required to pay more than $5,000 in compensation to the victim.
