Hamster Kombat, the leading Telegram tap-to-earn crypto game in terms of player base, announced on Tuesday through its mini app that the first season of in-game rewards will conclude on September 20, ahead of the token launch and airdrop scheduled for next week.

According to an in-game notification, "Season 1 ends on September 20," and players’ achievements up to that point "will be converted into HMSTR tokens." The game urges players to "level up quickly" before the cutoff. The team had previously outlined the in-game criteria that will determine how tokens are allocated.

In a Telegram community post shared on Tuesday, the Hamster Kombat team mentioned that it will take a "snapshot" of players' in-game earnings and status at 6 PM UTC on September 20. However, the team also confirmed that a second in-game rewards season is planned after the airdrop.

Hamster Kombat will launch its $HMSTR token on The Open Network (TON) on September 26 and will allow players to claim an airdrop. The game has previously stated that it has over 300 million total players to date, with Telegram app data showing 94 million active players in the last month. This makes it by far the most-played game on Telegram.

While the launch of the Hamster Kombat token is eagerly awaited by crypto gamers, there are concerns that it could pose challenges for the TON network. TON experienced two instances of downtime in late August due to a token claim for a smaller project, raising fears that the massive Hamster Kombat airdrop could once again overload the network.

Last week, $TON Core developers acknowledged in a Telegram post that the launch of HMSTR, along with Catizen’s $CATI token, which is set to launch on September 20, could lead to "increased technical pressures and possibly some unforeseen issues" during these high-profile token drops.
