There is also a major positive news coming at the end of September
Binance founder Zhao Changpeng is currently serving the last four months of his sentence and will be freed on the 29th of this month. According to the website of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, Zhao (also known as Prisoner 88087-510) will be released on September 29, 118 days after he was sent to Lompoc II, a low-security prison on the central coast of California.
He spent three months in Lompoc II before being transferred to a halfway house in San Pedro, California, in late August. In April this year, Zhao Changpeng was sentenced to four months in prison. Five months ago, he pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act and failing to establish an adequate "know your customer" (KYC) program at Binance.
As part of his guilty plea, Zhao Changpeng also agreed to pay a $50 million fine and resign as CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange. After Zhao Changpeng stepped down, Richard Teng, who had served as a supervisor for regulators in Abu Dhabi and Singapore, was appointed CEO of Binance.
In addition to the charges facing Changpeng Zhao, Binance was also accused of violating U.S. sanctions and money transmission laws, and agreed to pay $4.3 million to settle those charges.
