Two young men in the US have been arrested and charged with stealing and laundering more than $230 million in cryptocurrency following a lengthy investigation uncovered by blockchain expert ZachXBT.
Two suspects, Malone Lam, 20, and Jeandiel Serrano, 21, were arrested in Miami and Los Angeles in connection with the theft of more than $230 million in cryptocurrency. The case was uncovered on September 19 thanks to anonymous blockchain investigator ZachXBT, who published internal conversations on social media X, showing the suspects' plan to hack and hide the stolen funds.
The FBI has accused Lam, known as “Anne Hathaway,” “$$$,” and Serrano, known as “VersaceGod” and “@SkidStar,” of conspiring to steal and launder money. The stolen funds were allegedly taken from an early Bitcoin investor and a creditor of Genesis, a bankrupt cryptocurrency lender. The suspects allegedly used the funds to fund lavish activities such as international travel, nightclubs, luxury cars, watches, jewelry, and rental properties.
