### Shocked! Two young people are suspected of conspiring to steal $230 million in cryptocurrency

On September 20, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an announcement that an indictment was unsealed on September 19, accusing two young people, 20-year-old Malone Lam and 21-year-old Jeandiel Serrano, of conspiring to steal and launder more than $230 million in cryptocurrency. These two guys are not simple. Lam is a Singaporean citizen, with the online aliases "Anne Hathaway" and "$$$", while Serrano uses "VersaceGod" and "@SkidStar" as his online names.
According to the indictment, since August 2024, Lam, Serrano and others have conspired to commit cryptocurrency theft and launder money through exchanges and mixing services. They illegally obtained victims' cryptocurrency accounts through fraudulent means and then transferred the victims' funds to their own accounts. In order to conceal their true identities, they used various mixers, transition wallets and virtual private networks, which was really painstaking!
What is even more shocking is that these illegal gains were not hidden, but used for luxury consumption such as international travel, nightclubs, luxury cars, watches, jewelry, designer handbags, and rental houses in Los Angeles and Miami. It is just like a movie plot, unbelievable.
The investigation of this case was handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, the FBI Washington Division, and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division Washington Division. The FBI Los Angeles and Miami Divisions also provided important investigative and operational support. It can be said that this is a large-scale cross-state and cross-departmental operation.
