Solana Unveils New Seeker Device: Not Just a “Memecoin Phone”

Solana has unveiled its newest smartphone called the “Seeker.” The device is half the price of its predecessor, the Saga, and according to the team, it’s more than just a “memecoin phone.”

The Seeker’s predecessor — a smartphone called the Saga — was criticized in 2023 for its technical capabilities compared to devices like the iPhone and Google Pixel.

Solana Labs general manager Emmett Hollyer said the Seeker will have a higher-quality display, better cameras, and an upgraded battery, making it “lighter, brighter, and better” than the Saga.

The phone will also come with financial incentives for users, but the team doesn’t want users to think it’s just a phone to get free tokens.

“The Seeker, like the Saga, will be a rewards magnet, but it’s also a great opportunity for teams to build entirely new experiences,” Hollyer told Cointelegraph. He added that the new device would feature an updated decentralized application (DApp) store and improved hardware as well.

Hollyer believes that an open and unrestricted DApp store will allow developers to quickly launch and deploy new applications to Seeker users to better capture emerging narratives and use cases.
