WalletConnect to Launch $WCT Token with 185M Token Airdrop on Optimism Mainnet

WalletConnect is set to launch its native token, Connect Token ($WCT), on Optimism’s OP Mainnet, with an airdrop of 185 million tokens starting on September 24. The $WCT token will play a crucial role in the platform’s shift toward decentralization, supporting its governance and economic framework. To participate in the airdrop, eligible users must connect their wallets, GitHub accounts, and email addresses. However, sanctioned wallets and IP addresses are disqualified. The first airdrop season will conclude on October 11, with future seasons planned for those who miss this round.

Initially, $WCT tokens will remain non-transferable until at least 2025 to maintain network stability. Community governance will eventually determine when transferability is activated. The WalletConnect Foundation will oversee the decentralization process, aiming to ensure the network's security and development. Founder Pedro Gomes expects $WCT to drive further growth and partnerships for WalletConnect.
