XRP Ledger Update Coming: Major Network Issue Fixed

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set to receive an update aimed at solving a network issue. The main issue that prompted the update involved the crashing of full history (FH) nodes due to SQLite's page size limit.

Vet, an XRP dUNL validator, shared this development in a post on X. According to Vet, the fix for the XRP Ledger Full History Servers issue has been merged into Ripple's official XRPLF repository release, Ripple 2.2.3, which is now available for installation.

A fix for#XRPLedger full history servers is included in the official Ripple release of the XRPLF repository - Ripple 2.2.3 and is available for installation.

According to a screenshot provided by Vet, Rippled (XRP ledger server) version 2.2.3 is highly recommended for full history servers using 4096 page size. Since validators are not affected by this issue, they can either run 2.2.2 or upgrade to 2.2.3. This is because version 2.2.3 does not introduce any new changes to version 2.2.2.

What's happened?

Over the weekend, the XRP community noticed an issue on the Ripple server that caused full history (FH) nodes to crash.

Under normal circumstances, full history servers successfully record and serve the full transaction history. However, the FH nodes failed due to SQLite's page size limitation.

According to some XRPL dUNL validators, this issue was identified a few weeks ago but did not receive the attention it deserved.

XRP Cafe founder xrpl Adam clarified in a post by X that, contrary to popular belief, this issue does not affect consensus or network health.

Furthermore, thanks to clio's redundancy, most public XRPL endpoints do not require an actual FH server to return historical transaction results.

According to Xrpl Adam, the issue was not new to the XRP Ledger, as it was documented many years ago. At that time, it was noted that some Ripple servers with the full Ledger history could experience problems with the SQLite database page size, preventing the server from working properly.

However, the founder of XRP Cafe believes that the urgency of fixing the issue should have been announced earlier to avoid the FH nodes going down, which is what happened over the weekend.
