Tether Seeks to Improve Government Relations After UK Considers USDT a Distinct Property
The firm said its new hire would help improve its relationship with regulators globally.
Spiro said:
“Tether plays an important role in the current and future development of the digital economy and the hegemony of the US dollar.
The ever-evolving legislative and regulatory landscape will continue to demand strong collaboration between the public and private sectors.”
Meanwhile, observers noted that Spiro’s hiring could help improve Tether’s strained relationship with regulators. Over the years, the company has faced regulatory scrutiny over the reserves backing its USDT stablecoin.
However, Tether has made significant strides by consistently publishing quarterly certification reports to alleviate these concerns.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino acknowledged this by stating:
“[Spiro’s] deep experience in government relations and blockchain technology will be invaluable as we continue to navigate the complex and evolving regulatory environment.”
Previously, Spiro served as PayPal’s Director of Regulatory Relations for its Blockchain and Digital Currencies division and was Director of Government Affairs for leading blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.
