The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced that 12 defendants were sentenced for participating in a series of violent home invasions to steal cryptocurrencies. Among them, Remy Ra St Felix from Florida was sentenced to 47 years in prison for leading the incident. These crimes involved the theft of more than $3.5 million in digital assets. According to court records, St Felix and his accomplices used SIM card swaps to control victims' phone numbers to access cryptocurrency accounts. After controlling these accounts, they began to break into homes, tie up and threaten victims with guns to provide access to computers and cryptocurrency trading accounts to steal cryptocurrencies. The Department of Justice added: "The conspirators laundered money through anonymity-enhanced cryptocurrencies, as well as instant exchanges and DEXs that do not conduct KYC." (News.bitcoin)
