According to TechFlow, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced that it has launched a cross-border investigation into Google Ireland Limited to determine whether Google has complied with EU data protection laws in the process of developing its artificial intelligence models.

The investigation will focus on Google’s use of personal data of EU citizens when training its Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM 2).

It is reported that PaLM 2 is a new generation of AI model launched by Google, which is said to be faster and more efficient than previous models. The model provides four scale versions: Gecko, Otter, Bison and Unicorn, suitable for different scenarios. Among them, Gecko is a lightweight version that can run offline on mobile devices. Google said that as PaLM 2 is integrated into various products, it will continue to release updated versions.
