Another super lucky Bitcoin miner gets the entire block reward alone!

According to mempool information, an independent miner mined Bitcoin block 860749 through Solo CKPool and obtained 3.169 BTC (block reward + transaction fee), worth about US$181,000.

This is the third time in seven months that a Lotto machine has mined a block reward. The first time was claimed by a Lotto mining machine manufacturer, Altair Technology, that its model mined it. The mining pool may be the designated mining pool for the Lotto mining machine. It is speculated that there are more than hundreds of thousands of small computing power mining machines in this pool competing for Lotto blocks.

According to the official website, Solo CKPool adopts the (Solo Mining) model. Unlike traditional mining pools, which concentrate computing power and then distribute profits according to contribution ratios, each participant in Solo CKPool mines independently. If a block is mined, the miner will receive all the block rewards alone without sharing with other miners. Therefore, the reward of this lucky miner yesterday was quite considerable.

But it should be noted that the probability of a single mining machine mining a block is very low. This way of participating is like buying a lottery ticket.

How low is the probability of producing a block in CKPool?

Currently, the total Bitcoin network hashrate is 568.15 EH/s, but the CKPool hashrate is only 151 PH/s, accounting for only 0.0002658 of the total Bitcoin network hashrate. In addition, the mining pool may consist of hundreds of thousands to millions of mining machines, so the probability of a single mining machine successfully mining a block is extremely low. The miner was very lucky yesterday.

Assuming that the miner is using an Antminer S19 XP with a hashrate of 140 TH/s, this means that the total network hashrate is 4,058,214 times that of the miner. Therefore, the miner has only a 1 in 4,058,214 chance of successfully mining a block every 10 minutes (per block). If it is a lottery miner such as the 500 Gh/s Bitaxe, the chance of winning is only 1 in a billion.
