House Republicans have questioned Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler about whether his agency may be violating federal law by hiring based on political affiliation. In a letter dated September 10, GOP lawmakers Jim Jordan, Patrick McHenry, and James Comer alleged that the SEC has hired individuals from left-leaning organizations to fill senior roles. It was suggested that Gensler’s hiring of the agency’s trading and markets director, Dr. Haoxiang Zhu, may have been influenced by political affiliation.

If true, these allegations could undermine the SEC’s impartiality. Gensler was asked to share all documents related to his hiring and personnel decisions as of April 17, 2021. Gensler’s leadership has been marked by increased enforcement against crypto firms. What do you think about this? Let’s discuss it in the comments.
