Musk previously said he's ready and willing to work for Donald Trump if he's elected president of the United States. Elon Musk may be toying with the idea of establishing himself as the head of a new government agency if former U.S. President Donald Trump wins the White House again in the November 2024 election.
As expected, Musk hinted at the idea on the X social media platform with a pun involving both cryptocurrency and politics.

Dogecoin’s 24-hour high rose following Musk’s post, though as of the time of publication it was still below its seven-day high.

Musk's political ambitions
As Cointelegraph recently reported, Trump recently vowed to establish a commission on government efficiency. According to the former commander-in-chief, the commission would be tasked with conducting a comprehensive financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and recommending major reforms.
Musk retweeted a video of Trump's speech and included his own comment, saying "This is much needed." The billionaire tech mogul appeared to pledge to contribute to the political committee but did not explicitly say he would accept a formal government position.

“I look forward to serving America if given the opportunity,” he posted, adding, “No pay, title or recognition required.”
Government efficiency
It’s unclear whether Musk is actually considering a government position, or whether the back-and-forth presented by the media has any substance. Trump’s claim that Musk “agreed” to the position was made under the premise that “he’s not busy.”
According to Trump:
"Elon agreed to lead the task force because he wasn't busy. He was a good fit if he had the time, and he agreed."
Elon Musk’s statement that he is “not busy” could be a joke. Musk is currently the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, as well as the owner of Neuralink, The Boring Company, and the X social media platform.
In August and September alone (so far), he’s been involved in a high-profile conflict over the banning of X.com in Brazil, accepted a challenge to physical combat with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and reopened a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman.
Whether Trump or Musk is serious about further cooperation may not become clear until the results of the November election are known.
