It upgraded to its new Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL) at a 1:1 ratio, becoming the network’s native gas and staking token as of Sept. 4.

The upgrade will allow the community to better participate in the network’s growth, according to Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs. Boiron said exclusively:

“Now that there is 2% emissions being introduced through this upgrade, it’s going to give an opportunity for the community to participate [...] Technically, while the full migration hasn’t happened, [Season 1 of the community grant program] created some emissions that the community has could be used.”
