Ripple and SEC reach agreement to suspend $125 million judgment, hinting at possible appeal

Golden Finance reported that Ripple Labs' legal team requested a suspension of the $125 million fine awarded on August 7, 2023, and the SEC has agreed to postpone payment until after September 6. Ripple proposed to deposit 111% of the judgment amount (about $139 million) into a bank account until the end of the appeal period or the outcome of the appeal is determined. This move may foreshadow that the SEC will appeal. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse called the ruling a "victory" and the company said it would "respect" the fine. The case is presided over by Judge Analisa Torres. If appealed, it will mean that Ripple's dispute with the SEC has not been resolved. The SEC has accused Ripple of raising funds for XRP as an unregistered security. The judge previously ruled that the sale of XRP on the exchange does not constitute a security. XRP is currently priced at $0.56, up about 0.15% in the past 30 days.

CoinMetrics researchers Tanay Ved and Matías Andrade highlighted the challenges facing these networks as total fees and token performance fell below their highs at the beginning of the year. According to a report by CoinMetrics researchers Tanay Ved and Matías Andrade, the first-layer (L1) blockchain performed strongly in early 2024 but has since lost momentum.
