The crypto-focused travel platform Travala has made a major stride in cryptocurrency adoption by integrating with the global Skyscanner marketplace.

This marks Skyscanner’s first implementation with a crypto-native application, according to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph.

The new partnership underscores Skyscanner’s commitment to offering diverse payment methods to the growing needs of travelers, according to Sanja Vukik, the head of hotels at Skyscanner, who said:

“By integrating Skyscanner's market-leading search capabilities with Travala.com's crypto-native platform, we’re making travel planning more accessible and flexible for the growing number of travelers who prefer alternative payment methods.”

Travala will become accessible to Skyscanner’s over 110 million monthly users, potentially providing significant mainstream exposure to cryptocurrency and blockchain-based applications.

Crypto apps with “real” use cases could bolster mass adoption

Onboarding the next 500 million users will require simple apps with “actual usability,” like Telegram Mini Apps, that could be a “Trojan Horse” for mass adoption, according to Justin Hyun, the director of investments at TON Foundation.

Travala could also mean a significant boost for mainstream Web3 adoption, as the Skyscanner partnership will showcase the utility of crypto, according to Juan Otero, the CEO of Travala, who told Cointelegraph:

"Travel marketplaces like Skyscanner are the starting point for many during the discoverability phase for travelers, and having Travala featured on one of the world's leading travel marketplaces will encourage curiosity that guides web2 users into the world of Web3."

Skyscanner averages over 80 billion daily searches, which could result in an influx of new users discovering Travala’s crypto-driven travel platform.

Crypto rewards for travelers instead of regular loyalty points

Travala aims to revolutionize travel for crypto holders by enabling travel bookings directly through cryptocurrency payments.

Unlike other travel platforms such as Booking and Expedia, Travala offers users the option to pay with over 100 different cryptocurrencies.

Additionally, Travala is providing travelers with cryptocurrency rewards in place of traditional loyalty points, according to Travala's Otero.

"Travala's key point of differentiation is a wider range of payment options for travelers around the globe. On top of this, Travala has an integrated crypto-based loyalty program that offers crypto rewards instead of traditional loyalty points."

Founded in 2017, Travala is a cryptocurrency-based travel booking platform that provides access to over 2.2 million properties in 230 countries, along with booking services for more than 600 international airlines.
