Ripple Integrates Smart Contracts to XRP Ledger
Ripple has announced the addition of smart contracts to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to attract developers and expand use cases. These contracts will first be available on the XRPL’s Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain in the coming months, with a future rollout to the mainnet, although there is no specific date for the latter.
Smart contracts, used in DeFi and supply chains, allow for the automatic execution of transactions without intermediaries. Ripple is looking to collaborate with DeFi developers and facilitate the deployment of decentralized applications (DApps) using Solidity, Ethereum’s language.
In partnership with Peersyst, Ripple believes that the addition of EVM compatibility will further enhance the appeal of the XRPL to a global developer community, with increased programmability expected by 2025.
