Vitalik Buterin proposes improving airdrops using ZK technology

The Ethereum co-founder explained that the practice of token distribution could be improved using cryptographic identity solutions.

Vitalik Buterin classified Ethereum's ZK into four different types. Composition by CriptoNoticias.

With ZK, users (not people) could be identified and prevented from creating multiple wallets.

Airdrops consist of the distribution of cryptocurrencies among a community of users.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said in a statement that cryptocurrency airdrops could be improved with the implementation of zero-knowledge (ZK) technology.

According to the programmer and developer, this tool can offer a cryptographic identity solution, since it would enable the verification of user conditions or attributes, without revealing their identity.

For example, through identity systems, each user could have a unique identifier generated cryptographically without the need to detail sensitive or personal data. This would be useful to solve one of the biggest problems with cryptocurrency airdrops, where many users create multiple wallets to get a larger portion of that token distribution, affecting the equity in the distribution and harming the community.

Regarding this possible improvement in privacy, equity and security in the distribution of a cryptocurrency, Buterin made it clear on the social network X that ZK technology could be a good option. ZK is a cryptographic technique that allows to verify and validate information, such as transactions on a network, without the need to reveal additional data other than the veracity of that information.
