An investigating judge has ended police custody of Telegram founder Pavel Durov for questioning in court ahead of possible charges, CNN reports.
Information about his release spread in the crypto community. Against this background, the TON token quotes soared to $6, after which they fell to $5.6.
French authorities detained Durov on Saturday, August 24, as part of an investigation opened on July 8 against an “unidentified person” under 12 articles.
The latter include the illegal provision of cryptographic services, refusal to cooperate with law enforcement, complicity in the distribution of child pornography, assistance in drug trafficking and the activities of organized crime groups.
According to Politico, the French authorities issued an arrest warrant for Pavel and his older brother Nikolai on March 25 for ignoring requests from law enforcement agencies.
Recall that, according to The Wall Street Journal, the intelligence services of France and the UAE hacked the iPhone of the founder of Telegram in 2017 to search for information as part of an operation codenamed "Purple Music".
