Developed by two of Asia’s largest messaging apps, Kakao and LINE, Kaia’s mainnet launch signals a new opening for millions of users to Web 3 services.

In an announcement this week, Kaia, a high-performance layer 1 blockchain aiming to bring innovative Web 3 services to users across Asia, confirmed the launch of its long-awaited mainnet. The mainnet launch coincides with the unveiling of the Kaia Wave Builder support program, designed by Kaia and LINE NEXT “to accelerate consumer adoption of Web 3 services”.

The Abu Dhabi-based company ranks as one of Asia's biggest Web 3 companies, boasting 400 partners and a massive ecosystem across the region. The company was founded following Kakao and LINE’s entry into blockchain as the two messaging app operators launched L1 chains, Klaytn and Finschia. Kaia was born out of the merger of the two blockchains.

As the largest Web 3 ecosystem in Asia, Kaia offers advanced Web 3 services to Web 2 users via its integration with Kakaotalk and LINE messenger. The combination of Web 3 experiences and the ease and speed of web2 within their favourite messenger super app offers over 250 million users on Kakaotalk and LINE messenger the ability to connect, create, collaborate, and contribute to the blockchain ecosystem.

Speaking on the launch of the mainnet, Dr. Sam Seo, Chairman of Kaia DLT Foundation, spoke on the potential that Kaia holds, stating:

“The much-anticipated launch of the Kaia mainnet heralds a new era for the mass consumer adoption of blockchain-based services. Kaia will bring web3 to the rest of the world, starting from Asia.”

Starting August 29, Kaia users can access the mainnet and enjoy the ultra-high speeds, low gas fees, and leading support that the blockchain offers. The strategic partnerships with some of the most popular Web 3 firms in Asia, such as Kakao and LINE NEXT, will further extend the development of the platform and its expansion to global markets.

Kaia’s Mainnet Designed For Scalable Web 3 Ecosystems

According to the team statement, the mainnet launch will allow faster development on the platform by building on its scalable blockchain. Additionally, Kaia also aims to solve web3’s UX and distribution challenges via deep integration with leading Asian messengers. This will support a thriving ecosystem of DeFi, gaming, RWAs, and messenger apps running on scalable web3 infrastructure.

Praising Kaia’s mainnet launch, Youngsu Ko, CEO of LINE NEXT Inc., termed it “an important momentum” in its vision and goals. He believes the launch will drive LINE NEXT’s business forward and enable futuristic innovations, as the company gears towards expanding the Asian Web3 ecosystem.

“LINE NEXT will focus on bringing new experiences to users with the new Web3 platform and LINE Mini Dapps through Kaia Wave,” Youngsu Ko added.

Kaia Launches The ‘Wave Builder Support Program’

In line with the mainnet launch, Kaia also announced the launch of its ‘Kaia Wave Builder Support Program’, also sponsored by Kaia and LINE NEXT. The program aims to advance Web 3 development across messaging apps in Asia, providing up to $1.2M worth of marketing, tech, and business support per eligible team, with grants available to builders who leverage the NEXT Web SDK. Teams will also benefit from TGE and liquidity support as well as follow-up VC connections.

LINE NEXT’s Web SDK package includes the Kaia Wallet SDK, Kaia Wallet Market API and LINE LIFF API, which can be useful for designing LINE-based Mini apps that launch within the LINE messenger. This opens up a world of possibilities for creators and users, from payment options within LINE to bringing Telegram-style native app integration. Leveraging Kaia’s low TX latency, account abstraction, and fee delegation features, developers can create end-to-end seamless UX while extending their reach to hundreds of millions of LINE users across Asia.

Building A Massive User Base Across Asia

Kaia blockchain ranks as one of the busiest and most innovative Web 3 ecosystems across Asia. The platform is already being widely used in South Korea for several user-focused applications including loyalty programs and medical implant certificates.

The merger with Fischia blockchain is expected to further enhance Kaia’s penetration into Asia’s Web 3 market, with several products expected to migrate to Kaia’s ecosystem. One such application is, DOSI, a digital commerce platform that allows customers to purchase memberships, access passes, concert tickets, and NFTs using crypto or fiat.

Moreover, the sponsorship from LINE and Kakao, two of the largest messaging platforms in the region, promises rapid adoption by users. Kakaotalk is used by 96% of South Korean residents while LINE is the dominant messenger in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Through its integration with two of Asia’s most popular messenger super apps, Kaia provides a ready-made market for developers that will empower them to create original DApps that are accessible to millions.
