According to Politico on the 28th, former US Republican presidential candidate and former President Trump claimed in a new book to be published next week that Zuckerberg, CEO of social media giant Meta, conspired to obstruct his election during the 2020 US presidential election. Trump also warned that if he did so again, Zuckerberg "would spend the rest of his life in prison."
According to reports, this is the latest attack by Trump on Zuckerberg, who has repeatedly accused Zuckerberg of interfering in the 2020 US presidential election. On the other hand, Meta said it has taken measures to ensure that it will not interfere in related campaigns this year.
Trump's new book, Save America, will be released on September 3. The book contains an undated photo of Trump and Zuckerberg meeting at the White House. Trump wrote next to the photo that Zuckerberg "would come to see me in the Oval Office. He would bring his beautiful wife to dinner and act friendlier than anyone, all the while secretly plotting a real conspiracy against the President by installing voting 'lock boxes'."
According to the report, Trump was referring to the $420 million Zuckerberg and his wife had contributed to finance the cost of holding elections in some parts of the U.S. Although Zuckerberg said the funds were not used to support specific candidates, Republicans believed that this move took advantage of legal loopholes and actually benefited Trump's opponent Biden.
"He told me there was no one like Trump on Facebook. But at the same time, for some reason, he was secretly against me," the book continued. "We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time, he will spend the rest of his life in prison - just like those who cheated in the 2024 presidential election."
The report pointed out that Trump had previously made similar remarks against Zuckerberg. In July, Trump posted on his own social platform Truth Social that if he is elected president, he will "hunt down election fraudsters with unprecedented force, and they will be imprisoned for a long time. We already know who you are. Don't do it! Zuckerbucks, be careful!" Newsweek previously stated that "Zuckerbucks" refers to Zuckerberg's funding of local election agencies before the 2020 US presidential election.
A Meta spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the claims in Trump's book.
On August 27th local time, the official account of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee released a letter from Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, in which Zuckerberg admitted to the committee that the Biden administration had tried to "pressure" Meta to cooperate with the Biden administration in censoring and controlling user posts on issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He now believes that the White House's doing so is "wrong."
Zuckerberg also said he would not provide funding for elections again before this year's US presidential election, although he also stressed that he remained politically neutral when providing such funds and did not favor a particular party.
