Golden Finance reported that Alex Gluchowski, CEO of Matter Labs, the main developer of ZKsync, believes that as L2 increases, fragmentation is the next major challenge that needs to be solved in the blockchain field. He said that the new competition will be between projects that provide interoperability solutions, "more specifically, Optimism's Superchain and Matter Labs' Elastic Chain, because they are the only two ecosystems in the blockchain that actually achieve interoperability." Gluchowski said that he doubted whether Optimism's interoperability plan would be easy to achieve without upgrading its system to include zero-knowledge proofs. "These are complex technologies." Gluchowski said that the L2 chain needs to be redefined and regarded as useful for specific use cases. "The real question is, do we have an important L2? I don't think we need too many general L2s, but we do need some application-specific L2s or community-specific L2s."
