According to Foresight News, Vitalik Buterin said that the airdrop is an interesting initial use case for verifying zero-knowledge proof (ZK), blockchain identity, credentials and proof frameworks. The goals of the airdrop include: distributing to community members rather than random users who sell immediately, rewarding project contributors, maintaining relative fairness (allowing a certain degree of difference), and resisting malicious extractive arbitrage. These are exactly the characteristics that identity, credentials and proof frameworks are designed to achieve, so it is reasonable to use token issuance as an initial use case for these frameworks for testing and optimization, especially in adversarial environments.
