Australian education ministers have unanimously adopted a national AI framework developed by the national AI working group. From 2024, all schools in the country will allow the use of AI systems, including ChatGPT. 📚🤖

The framework document aims to provide guidance on the responsible use of AI in schools, addressing issues from privacy concerns to potential replacement for traditional teaching methods. Ministers have committed to working with relevant education systems to implement the framework in the first quarter of next year.

The framework also includes a $1 million investment in Education Services Australia, a not-for-profit education technology company. The company will work to define "product expectations" for generative AI and collaborate with educational product providers to integrate AI into existing systems.

Education Minister Jason Clare acknowledged that legitimate concerns remain but stressed the importance of avoiding inequalities in access to AI in education. He also stressed that it is important to find the right balance between the use and possible abuse of AI.
