PANews reported on August 26 that according to The Guardian, French judicial authorities have extended the detention of Telegram founder Pavel Durov. Durov was arrested at Paris Le Bourget Airport on Saturday on suspicion of crimes related to his messaging application. The investigation involves charges including fraud, drug trafficking, organized crime, terrorist propaganda and cyberbullying.
The detention can last up to 96 hours, at which time the judge will decide whether to release him or bring charges. Telegram issued a statement saying that its platform complies with EU law and that Durov "has nothing to hide" and said it looks forward to resolving the matter as soon as possible.
