In the bear market, most brothers are not in a good mental state and are in a low period.

I want to say that you are not alone. Everyone will go through some troughs, even stages of depression, pain, and even madness.

I recently watched Nolan's "Oppenheimer" and went back to read Oppenheimer's biography.

Even if he is as strong as a genius (learned Dutch in two weeks and can give scientific research lectures in Dutch), a rich second generation (his father left an inheritance of 200,000 US dollars, which is equivalent to several hundred million today), handsome (see the picture), he will leave an immortal legacy Achievement (or controversy? Completed the atomic bomb before the Nazis), there was a particularly unbearable and painful period. 0

During the two years after he graduated from Harvard and went to Europe, he did the following terrible things:

Tried to poison his tutor with a poisonous apple (with his father's help, he was not expelled from Cambridge and was ordered to go to London for psychological counseling every week);

I had a hallucination on the train, forcibly kissed a married woman, cried and begged for forgiveness on my knees, and then tried to throw luggage at her on the second floor;

After hearing that her best friend was getting married and feeling that he was leaving her, she couldn't control her anger and jealousy and tried to strangle her with a luggage strap. Fortunately, the other party managed to break free and forgave him later;

I would often be in such pain that I would roll on the ground, struggling and moaning, and I would always be in an extremely unstable state mentally.

So, why would a proud man act like this?

Looking at the introduction in the biography, there are mainly several reasons:

Confusion in the main line of life: At Cambridge, he was initially assigned to experimental physics, which was an area that Auburn was particularly bad at, so much so that he began to doubt his own intellectual superiority (he had always been regarded as a genius);

Socially Lonely: In the UK, Oban doesn't fit in and is jealous of his best friend who fits in perfectly;

The lack and repression of love and sex: For a young man in his early 20s, repression in this area is also an important reason, which is why he forcibly kissed a strange woman on the train and tried to attack her.

Later, Oban traveled to Corsica, read "In Search of Lost Time", and began to gradually understand the pain he caused to others, and had a spiritual epiphany;

And he turned to theoretical physics, a field that he was very good at, and found his direction in life;

He also taught himself psychoanalysis to the point where he is so professional that no doctor is more professional than him and can analyze himself more thoroughly.

Looking back at the trough of genius, we can actually draw a very simple truth that everyone has heard. However, I think it is indeed the most important help to get out of the trough:

Main line of life: Find the main line of life that you are good at and passionate about;

Intimacy: Find a good intimate relationship (love and sex);

Self-understanding and, more importantly, understanding the suffering of others.

I hope that reading this paragraph from Auburn will be helpful to brothers who are going through a low period in the bear market, or who are experiencing sudden pain in life.

You can only get out of the trough by yourself, which is the best practice in life. How to get out of it is very simple. Think clearly, do it slowly, and then let time be on your side.
